3. Web Entry and Documents to be Submitted

With our Web Entry system, you can submit the application online. Read this section carefully before applying online.

Information You Need for Web Entry

You are requested to upload the JPEG data of your ID photo for the Reference Card. The ID photo must be taken within three months with no hats or other head adornments.

Applicants for  Master’s Program in Environmental Sciences who meet the conditions specified in the Remarks

Read the following and check the box on the Web Entry system.
You are required to submit an original copy of the TOEIC Official Score Certificate (with photo attached) or TOEFL Examinee’s Score Record (with photo attached) to meet the requirements for the ‘English’ subject.
Applicants for Master’s Programs in Geosciences, Agro-Bioresources Science and Technology, and Environmental Sciences may submit an IELTS Academic Module Test Report Form instead.
Scores on tests taken after July 2015 are valid. Photocopies are not accepted.
We will not accept TOEIC Institutional Program Score Report and TOEFL Institutional Test Score Record.
Applicants for Master’s Program in Environmental Sciences may take the TOEFL ITP test carried out on the examination day. (Choose the option on the Web System)

Applicants for Doctoral Program in Integrative Environment and Biomass Sciences who meet the conditions specified in the Remarks Read the following and check the box on the Web Entry system.
You are required to submit an original copy of the TOEIC Official Score Certificate with photo attached, TOEFL Examinee’s Score Record with photo attached or TOEFL Institutional Test Score Record of the test carried out by the University of Tsukuba to meet the requirements for the ‘English’ subject.
Scores on tests taken after July 2015 are valid. Photocopies are not accepted.
If you cannot submit a Score Record or Score Certificate above at the time of application, take the TOEFL ITP test carried out on the examination day.
We will not accept TOEIC Institutional Program Score Report and TOEFL Institutional Test Score Record of the test carried out by institutes other than the University of Tsukuba.
3. Eligibility All applicants Follow the instructions on the Web Entry system.
Research Plan Applicants for Master’s Programs in Geosciences (Earth Evolution Science Field) / Agro-Bioresources Science and Technology / Environmental Sciences Summarize your research plan within 1,000 words in English.
If you apply to Master’s Programs in Agro-Bioresources Science and Technology, describe both graduate study and research plan.
Note) Only if it is essential for you to use mathematical formulae, Greek letters, special symbols, or diagrams which cannot be entered in the Web Entry system, you may use the prescribed form downloadable from the Web Entry system. Fill it out and submit it together with the other required documents by mail or hand. The format of the form may not be changed. Any texts may not be written outside the box.

Follow the instructions given at the last page of the Web Entry system and pay your fees.
The following payment methods are available.
Credit Card (for all applicants):
Pay your fees online. After the payment, enter the receipt number into the box on the Web Entry system.
Convenience Store (for domestic applicants only):
Pay your fees at a convenience store in Japan. After the payment, enter the name of the convenience store that you used, the date of payment, and the number given by the store into the box on the Web Entry system.

(Expected) Graduation Certificate* All applicants Submit a graduation certificate (or an attested document certifying that you will graduate) issued by a university or another educational institution that meets the application requirements for the master’s programs of this Graduate School.
Note) Even if you have already earned a master’s or a doctoral degree, you need to submit a graduation certificate issued by the university which you have earned a bachelor’s degree.
Degree Certificate* Those who graduated from a university or another educational institution outside Japan If you graduated from a university or another educational institution outside Japan, submit a degree certificate for your bachelor’s. All documents must be in English or in Japanese.
Note) Even if you have already earned master’s or doctoral degree, you need to submit a degree certificate issued by a university which you have earned a bachelor’s degree.

Upload the JPEG file of your degree certificate to the Web Entry system.
Academic Transcript* All applicants Submit an academic transcript (the official transcript of programs record) issued by a university or another educational institution that meets the application requirements for the master’s programs of this Graduate School. If any credits were transferred from another school, submit an academic transcript from that school.
If you have completed or will complete a graduate school, submit an academic transcript (the official transcript of programs record) issued by the graduate school, too. (All documents must be in English or in Japanese.)

Submit an original copy of the TOEIC Official Score Certificate (with photo attached) or TOEFL Examinee Score Record (with photo attached) of the test you took after July 2015 attached to the designated form, which can be created in PDF format and printed from the Web entry system. Applicants for Master’s Programs in Geosciences, Agro-Bioresources Science and Technology, and Environmental Sciences may submit an IELTS Academic Module Test Report Form instead. Applicants for Doctoral Program in Integrative Environment and Biomass Sciences may submit a TOEFL ITP Examinee Score Record instead.
Note) Applicants for Master’s Program in Environmental Sciences and Doctoral Program in Integrative Environment and Biomass Sciences don’t need to submit it if they would take the test on the examination day.
We will not accept a photocopy of TOEIC Institutional Program Score Report (with photo attached), TOEFL Institutional Test Score Record (with photo attached) or IELTS Academic Module Test Report Form (with photo attached).
Any question arising out of, or in connection with, TOEIC Official Score Certificate, TOEFL Examinee Score Record or IELTS Academic Module Test Report Form will be referred to the issuing organization.
Research Plan Only applicants whose “Research Plan” needs mathematical formulae, Greek letters, special symbols, or diagrams which cannot be entered in the Web Entry system If applicable, check the box in the Web Entry system to download the form from the last page. Fill it out on one page and submit it to us by airmail or hand.

Receipt Portion (Certificate of Payment) of Examination Fee Statement Applicants who made a convenience store payment

After the payment, detach the Receipt Portion (certificate of payment) from the Examination Fee Statement given at the convenience store and submit it to us by airmail or hand.
The Receipt Portion needs to be attached to the form that can be created after you complete the web entry.

After the payment, print out the “Application Completed” page, and submit it to us by airmail or hand.
Letter of Approval for Entrance Exam (Form of Your Selection) If applicable
  1. Applicants who currently attend a university or graduate school (except those who will graduate or complete in March 2018) must submit a letter of approval for taking the entrance examination issued by the head of their university (or department). (Format of your choice)
  2. Applicants who currently work for a government agency, school, or company (except part-time workers) must submit a letter of approval for taking the entrance examination issued by their supervisor or a declaration written by the applicants themselves. (Format of your choice) [Applicants who plan to leave their company to enroll in the graduate school may instead submit a document written by the applicants themselves (affixed with their seal). In this case, the applicants must submit a certificate of resignation at the time of the enrollment procedure.]
Certificate of Government-Sponsored (Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship) Foreign Student If applicable The certificate must be submitted by airmail or hand.
If you are enrolled in another university at the time of application, submit the certificate of government-sponsored (Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship) foreign student issued by the university.

(Note) In the case that your current name is different from that on the documents you submit (for example, because of marriage), submit with the proof (e.g. copy of marriage license).

Reference Card All applicants The Web Entry system instructs you to supply the JPEG data of your ID photo for the Reference Card. The ID photo must be taken within three months with no hats or other head adornments.
Print out the Reference Card with your ID photo and bring a copy of the card to the venue with you on the examination day.
Address Sheet All applicants Attach the sheet to your envelope when you submit the required documents to us by registered airmail or hand.

Form for Submission of TOEIC Official Score Certificate, TOEFL Examinee’s Score Record or IELTS Academic Module Test Report Form Applicants who need to send an English test score Attach an original copy of the TOEIC Official Score Certificate or TOEFL Examinee’s Score Record (or IELTS Academic Module Test Report Form if you are an applicant for either of Master’s Programs in Geosciences, Agro-Bioresources Science and Technology, or Environmental Sciences) you took after July 2015, and send it by registered airmail.

Results from the entrance examination, as well as personal information obtained by the University of Tsukuba from the application documents, will be used not only for affairs concerning admission and screening, but also research and study aimed at improvement of the admission procedure and the university education. We will carefully take care of the data not to be disclosed as a specific person. Also, we will use the data to screen students for scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization, which are offered to individuals who have completed the enrollment procedures.
