Selection Process
Applicants are selected through a comprehensive assessment of their submitted documents and results of the examination.

Earth Evolution Sciences

Doctoral Program in Earth Evolution Sciences Conduct an interview individually, approximately 25 minutes for each applicant.
Foreign students may conduct the presentation and interview in English.

  2. 2.In the oral examination, applicants are required to give a presentation on their master’s thesis and research plan (15 minutes). An LCD projector is available for use on site. A computer is also available, but it is preferable if you can bring your own laptop (with your presentation file saved to it). The presentation will be followed by an interview.

Individual Interview

Presentation on the applicant’s master’s thesis (or other previous research) and research plans after enrollment (15 minutes), followed by an interview (15 minutes). The interview can be conducted in English. No materials or computer can be brought in. An LCD projector is available for use on site. See (Note) 4.

  1. 1.Submit your TOEIC Official Score Certificate (with photo attached) or the TOEFL Examinee Score Record (with photo attached) at the time of application (photocopy is not accepted). Scores on tests taken after July 2015 are valid.
  2. 2.Foreign students who cannot submit the TOEIC Official Score Certificate (with photo attached) or the TOEFL Examinee Score Record (with photo attached) at the time of application must take a foreign language (English) examination conducted separately. The details will be sent by e-mail.
  3. 3.Scores of TOEIC and TOEFL are evaluated based on the reference scores shown below. A score equal to or over the reference score is evaluated as perfect, and a lower score is proportionately reduced.

  2. 2.Presentation will be performed on the notebook PC brought in by the applicants. The VGA Adapter for the projector is 15 Pin Mini D Sub Connector. If your notebook PC does not support this type of adapter, bring your own adapter to the examination site. Applicants must perform preview beforehand accordingly to the instruction by staffs [Time for preview: 9:20~9:40 (time is strictly observed)].
    In preparation for trouble, applicants must bring their presentation documents saved as PDF files to a virus-free USB memory stick.

10 minutes of presentation, referring to the applicant’s master’s thesis and Research Plan, on the details of the thesis, research experience, and research plans after enrollment. Use of laptops is allowed (In principle, applicants are required to bring in and operate their own laptops. An LCD projector is available for use on site. Contact the admission office of the Doctoral Program in Sustainable Environmental Studies for details.) The presentation is followed by a comprehensive interview (15 minutes).
