3. Web Entry and Supporting Documents to be Submitted
With our Web Entry system, you can submit the application online. Read this section carefully before applying online. The first screening is conducted on both the information of web Entry and the documents to be posted.
[Information You Need for Web Entry]
|1. Applicant’s Information||All applicants||Follow the instruction on the Web Entry system.
You are requested to upload the JPEG data of your ID photo for the Reference Card. The ID photo must be taken within three months with no hats.
|2. Course Information/ Preferences||All applicants||Follow the instructions on the Web Entry system.|
|TOEIC/ TOEFL Score/ IELTS Score||All applicants except for those whose first language is English||Read the following and check the appropriate box indicated on the Web Entry system:
Submit the original of TOEIC Official Score Certificate with photo identification, TOEFL-PBT or iBT Examinee’s Score Record with photo identification, or IELTS (Academic Module) Official Test Report Form with photo identification of either of the examination you took in or after July of 2015.
Upload the original of TOEIC Official Score Certificate with photo identification, TOEFL Examinee’s Score Record with photo identification, or IELTS (Academic Module) Official Test Report Form with photo identification in JPEG format when proceeding with the Web Entry system.
The originals without photo identification, a photocopy of the originals, the original of TOEIC Institutional Program (IP) Score Report, or TOEFL Institutional Test Program (ITP) Score Record or score report of the IETLS General Training Module will NOT be accepted.
When English is your first language (see this file), the submission of the original of either of the examinations is not required.
|3. Eligibility||All applicants||Follow the instructions on the Web Entry system.|
|Background, Study Plan, Future Career Plan and Short Essay||All applicants||Describe your motivations for the application, academic/non-academic background, study plan(s), future career plan(s), and short essay within 1,000 words in English.|

|Research Activities||All applicants who have research history|
|Employment Records||All applicants who have employment history|
1. Documents to be sent by email directly from the department dean or the supervisor.
|Letter of Recommendation||All applicants||A recommendation letter of the department dean or the supervisor, from which the applicant graduated/is expected to graduate, should be sent to the admission office. The recommendation letter must be written on A4/letter-size paper with the department-letter-head printed and with the signature of the recommender. The letter should be converted to a PDF file and must be sent to the T-LSI Office by the recommender directly by email.|
2. Documents to be sent from the applicant
(The original copies need to be posted to us by airmail).
|(Expected) Graduation Certificate (See the note)||All applicants||Submit a certificate of (expected) completion issued by a university (generally the graduate school (university) from which you have earned your master’s degree) which meets the application requirements for the doctoral program of the University of Tsukuba Graduate School.|
|Degree Certificate||Those who graduated from other educational institution or a university outside Japan||Submit a document/documents which will certify that you earned (are expected to earn) a master’s degree from a university or another educational institution.
The document(s) must;
– be issued by the institution
– include the name of the degree(s) conferred/ expected to be conferred by the institution and the date of conferral.
Upload a JPEG file to the Web Entry system and then post certified true copy(ies) to us by express mail. The document(s) must be written in English.
|Academic Transcript||All applicants||Submit an academic transcript (the official transcript of programs record) issued by universities or other educational institutions where you have earned/are expected to earn your master’s degree. If any credits were transferred from another school, submit an academic transcript from that school. (All documents must be in English or in Japanese.)
Post an original copy to us by express mail.
|Letter of Approval for Taking the Examination
(Format of your choice)
|Applicants who meet the following conditions||1. Individuals who currently attend a university or graduate school (except those who will graduate or complete in March 2018) are required to submit a letter of approval for taking the examination issued by the head of their university (or department). (Format of your choice, A4 size)
2. Individuals who currently work for a government agency, school, or company (except part-time workers) are required to submit a letter of approval for taking the examination issued by their supervisor or a declaration written by the applicants themselves. (Format of your choice, A4 size)
|Certificate of Government-Sponsored International Student
(Format of your choice)
|International applicants who meet the following conditions||Government-sponsored international students enrolled in another university are required to submit a certificate of government-sponsored international student issued by the university.|
(Note) If your current name differs from that on any of your certificates due to marriage or other reasons, enclose an extract of your family register (photocopy is acceptable) or relevant certificate of individual items in your family register.
PDF to be Created after Completing Web Entry
|Reference Card||All applicants||Print out two sheets of the Reference Cards. Send one out of two with your required documents and keep the other for your record.|
|Address Sheet||All applicants||Attach the sheet to your envelope when you post the required documents to us.|
PDF to be Created after Submitting Payment Information
|Examination ID Card||All applicants who passed the first screening||Print out the Examination ID Card with your ID photo and bring it to the venue with you on your examination day, one day between August 22 and August 24, 2017.|
Notes:Results from the entrance examination, as well as personal information obtained by the University of Tsukuba from the application documents, will be used not only for affairs concerning admission and screening, but also research and study aimed at improvement of the admission procedure and the university education. We will carefully take care of the data not to be disclosed as a specific person. Also, we will use the data to screen students for scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization, which are offered to individuals who have completed the enrollment procedures.
