(History Major)
Japanese History Subscribe to Historical Materials.
Oriental History is (1) reading of historical materials and (2) reading English literature.
Western History ① Reading materials and ② Reading foreign literature (choose one from English, German, French, or Hebrew).
Historical geography is a subscription to historical materials (including reading figures).

(Anthropology Major)
Prehistory/Archaeology are read in foreign literature reading (English, German, French or Chinese are selected in one language).

Essay:
This examines your knowledge of your specialized field.
You need to select one question/questions out of the questions set by each section (Modern Culture Studies or Language and Information Studies).
You answer questions about your specialized field, your research plan, etc. The examination is conducted in the form of an individual interview.

  1. Applicants CANNOT select their mother language (first language) as their chosen foreign language. Applicants CANNOT use dictionaries during this examination. If the following languages―Chinese, Korean, Russian, German, Spanish, Portuguese、or Modern Hebrew―are highly relevant to the applicant’s research theme which they plan to study in our program, applicants can select one of these languages as their chosen language for the foreign-language examination.
    If applicants want to designate one of the languages noted above, they must inform the Master’s Program in International Area Studies office by September 6, 2018 by providing a statement (within 1200 letters in Japanese or 400 words in English) explaining the relationship between their chosen research area (course), research plan, and designated foreign language. Please note that this statement must arrive by the above noted date. If applicants select a foreign language other than English or Japanese in their applications without sending such statement beforehand, it will not be accepted.
