  1. Before you apply, you need to contact a prospective supervisor (a faculty member from whom you wish to receive academic instruction) in advance (see the Faculty Members, Degree Programs in Pure and Applied Sciences – Master’s Programs –).
  2. The assessment of English ability
    1. 〈1〉Applicants have to choose one from the following:
      1. 1)Submit the Examinee Score Report or Test Taker Score Report issued on and after August 1st, 2019 of TOEFL
      2. 2)Submit the Official Score Certificate/ Report of TOEIC
      3. 3)Submit the Test Report Form of IELTS (Academic Module)

      Applicants have to submit the Examinee Score Report or Test Taker Score Report issued on and after August 1st, 2019 of TOEFL, the Official Score Certificate/ Report of TOEIC, or Test Report Form of IELTS (Academic Module).
      The TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS score of the exam taken after January 2018 is valid.
      A copy of the original and a PDF copy downloaded from the Internet are NOT acceptable. There is no English test conducted by the university.

    If your score of TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS amount to more than the score below, it is considered to be equivalent to a perfect score of our English test.

  3. About Specialized Subject
    1. 〈2〉 Answer the designated number of questions from basic and special subjects.
    2. 〈3〉 Answer one or more questions from each field including inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, and organic chemistry. (Answer four questions in total)
    3. 〈4〉You must answer mathematics question. Besides, answer three questions from mechanics, electromagnetics, quantum mechanics, optics, and semiconductor engineering. (Choosing mechanics or electromagnetics is necessary.)
    4. 〈5〉Answer two questions from basic special subject, and one question from special subject. (three questions in total)
  4. About Individual Interview
    〈6〉When applying on our web entry system, you can choose to be interviewed remotely if it is difficult for you to come to University of Tsukuba and to be interviewed on our campus face to face.
    A remote interview is restricted to connect to our university over skype from outside Japan.
    As a general rule, while having a skype interview, you must be in a public place proper for taking an entrance examination.
    To have a skype interview, you must ensure the stability of communication environment including voice and video at the time of the oral examination day designated by the University.
    Please note that if the instability of your communication environment prevents the interview from going properly, you might be marked absent.
    As for the schedule of the oral examination, please refer to the ‶Timetable of the oral examination” that will be sent by email.
