3. Web Entry and Documents to be Submitted

With our Web Entry system, you can submit the application online. Read this section carefully before applying online.

[Information You Need for Web Entry]

Information to be Entered Required for Remarks
Applicant’s Information All applicants Follow the instructions on the Web Entry System. Please write your name in alphabet as written in your passport. (This name will be used for the Letter of Acceptance, visa procedures and other official documents etc.)
ID photo must be in JPEG format. (The photo must be taken within 3 months prior to submission. Applicant should face the front without any hats or other adornments)
Employment Records All applicants who have work experience Follow the instructions on the Web Entry System.
Research Activities All applicants who have research experience Follow the instructions on the Web Entry System.
Research Plan All applicants Follow the instructions on Web Entry Form and write your research plan including the Research Title, Outline, Objective, Methodology and Expected Results, etc. within the word limit shown in each “( )”.
Internship Plan All applicants Follow the instructions on Web Entry Form and write within the word limit shown in each “( )”.
Internship is compulsory in the curriculum.
Academic Field and Academic Supervisor All applicants Follow the instructions on Web Entry Form.
Examination Fee
(First Screening)
All applicants except foreign government- sponsored students etc., (*Refer to “4. Examination Fee”) Follow the instructions given on the last page of the Web Entry system and pay the first screening fee.
The following payment methods are available.
Credit Card (for all applicants):
Pay your fee online. After the payment, enter the receipt number into the box on the Web Entry system.
Convenience Store (for domestic applicants only):
Pay your fee at a convenience store in Japan. After the payment, enter the name of the convenience store, the date of payment, and the number given by the store into the box on the Web Entry system.

Submission Deadline: 5 March 2021, 5:00pm (JST)
Certificates for submission must be the original or certified copy and send it by registered mail or courier service.

【Important Notice】

  • Note 1: Certificates issued by University must have stamp and sign of the University.
  • Note 2: Certificates for submission must be the original or certified copy (certified copy is a copy of a document that can be used instead of the original one because an official has checked it and formally approved it as a true and accurate copy by signing it).
  • Note 3: Uncertified photocopies will NOT be accepted.
  • Note 4: When sending originals or certified copies of the documents to University of Tsukuba, please send it by registered mail or courier service which can be tracked down afterwards.
  • Note 5: All the documents must be in ENGLISH or JAPANESE. If the language used in documents is other than English or Japanese, it must be translated to either language by registered translator.
  • Note 6: If your current name differs from that on any of your certificates due to marriage or other reasons, enclose the family register (photocopy is acceptable) indicating the revision or relevant certificate of individual items in your family register.
  • Note 7: Submitted documents will not be returned. Please note that this rule applies even when you submitted the original.
Documents Required for Remarks
(Expected) Graduation Certificate All applicants Submit a (expected) graduation certificate issued by a university (generally the undergraduate school where you received a Bachelor’s degree) which meets the application requirements for University of Tsukuba.
Note: Even if you have a Master’s or Doctoral degree, you are required to submit a certificate issued by the university where you received a Bachelor’s degree.
Degree Certificate Those who graduated from a university or another educational institution outside Japan If you graduated from a university or another educational institution outside Japan, submit a graduation certificate for your bachelor’s degree. All documents must be in English or in Japanese.

Note: Even if you have already earned a master’s or doctoral degree, you need to submit a degree certificate issued by a university from which you have earned a bachelor’s degree.

Upload the JPEG file of your degree certificate to the Web Entry system.

Academic Transcript All applicants Submit an academic transcript (the official transcript of your programs history) issued by a university or another educational institution that meets the application requirements for the Master’s Programs of this Graduate School. If any credits were transferred from another school, submit an academic transcript from that school.
If you have completed or will complete a graduate school, submit an academic transcript (the official transcript of programs record) issued by the graduate school, too. (All documents must be in English or in Japanese.)
Letter of Recommendation All applicants Submit a letter of recommendation (in any format) written by your director or academic advisor.
Note1: The letter of recommendation must be duly signed and dated.
Note2: The letter of recommendation must be sealed by the recommender, otherwise it will be considered invalid.
English Proficiency Test Score Sheet All Applicants

(excluding the following)

  1. Applicants whose first language is English
  2. Applicants who have completed (or expected) undergraduate or graduate course where the language of instruction is English
    Note: Distance education programs are excluded from above
Applicants must submit original or certified copy of the one of the official documents from 1-3 below to University of Tsukuba by registered mail or courier service.
Certificates 1-3 must be taken in or after February 2019, and we do not accept any scores taken in or before January 2019.

  1. TOEIC Listening & Reading Test Official Score Certificate
  2. TOEFL Examinee (Test Taker) Score Report
  3. Test Report Form of IELTS (Academic Module)
    Documents below are not acceptable

  • Uncertified photocopy of the certificate
  • TOEIC Institutional Program (IP) Score Report
  • TOEFL Institutional Test Score Record

Note: Please do not send official scores directly from ETS (English Testing Service), IELTS testing center or any other English center.

Certificate of English program completion Applicants who meet the following conditions Applicants who have completed (or expected) undergraduate or graduate course (excluding distance education programs) where the language of instruction is English. In case the official language of the country in which the applicant attended the school is not English, it is required to submit an official document from the school to certify that the language of instruction was English (in any format, A4 size).
Copy of “Application Completed” Page of Examination Fee (First Screening) Payment by Credit Card Applicants who made a credit card payment
(*Refer to “4. Examination Fee”)
After the payment, print out the “Application Completed” page.
Receipt Portion (Certificate of Payment) of Examination Fee (First Screening) Statement Applicants who made a convenience store payment
(*Refer to “4. Examination Fee”)
After the payment, detach the Receipt Portion (Certificate of Payment) from the Examination Fee Statement given at the convenience store.
The Receipt Portion needs to be attached to the form that can be created online and printed out after you complete the Web Entry procedure.
Letter of Approval for Taking the Examination Applicants who meet the following conditions
  1. Individuals who currently attend a university or graduate school (except those who will graduate or complete by September 2021) are required to submit a letter of approval for taking the examination issued by the head of their university or department. (in any format, A4 size)
  2. Individuals who currently work for a government agency, school, or company (except part-time workers) are required to submit a letter of approval for taking the examination issued by their supervisor or a declaration written by the applicants themselves. (in any format, A4 size)
    〔Applicants who plan to leave their company to enroll in master’s course may instead submit a document written by the applicants themselves (affixed with their seal or signature). In this case, the applicants must submit a certificate of resignation at the time of the enrollment procedure.〕
Certificate of Government-Sponsored (Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship) Foreign Student If applicable If you are enrolled in another university at the time of application, submit the certificate of the government-sponsored (Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship) foreign student issued by the university.

*In case your current name is different from that on the documents you submit (e.g., because of marriage), submit with the proof (e.g., copy of your marriage license).

Following PDF documents will be available for printing after the submission of online application. (Web Entry)
Please print out and fill out the necessary PDF documents and submit them by registered mail or courier service with other necessary documents to University of Tsukuba.

Documents Required for Remarks
Admission Card All applicants Print out the card and show it to the interviewer on your oral examination day.
Address Sheet All applicants Attach the address sheet to your envelope when you submit the required documents to us by mail.

Form for Submission of the Certificate of Payment of Examination Fee Applicants who made a convenience store payment Attach the Receipt Portion (Certificate of Payment) of the Examination Fee Statement to the form.

* Results from the entrance examination, as well as personal information obtained by University of Tsukuba from the applicants’ documents, will be used for affairs concerning admission and screening, or may be used to improve the way of admission and university education keeping each identity confidential. Also, they will be used as part of the materials for screening students for tuition exemption or scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization, which are offered to individuals who have completed the enrollment procedures.
