There is a possibility that there will be changes in the method of the entrance examinations for the University of Tsukuba Graduate School for academic year 2021, depending on the situation regarding the spread of the infections of the COVID-19, such as changes to online entrance examinations, etc.

Also, there is a possibility that schedule, allotment of marks etc., will be changed, in connection with the changes in the examination method.

Once there are any changes in the examination method, schedule, allotment of marks etc., information on the application guidelines website will be updated. Please do check the website regularly for the latest information.

2. The assessment of English ability
   1. 〈1〉Applicants have to choose one from the following and submit an original score by registered mail or in person by July 30 (Thu.), 2020.
      1. 1)The Examinee Score Report or Test Taker Score Report issued on and after August 1st, 2019 of TOEFL
      2. 2)The Official Score Certificate/ Report of TOEIC
      3. 3)The Test Report Form of IELTS (Academic Module)
      4. 4)The Test Taker Score Report of TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition

      The TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS score of the exam taken after June 2018 is valid.
      A copy of the original and a PDF copy downloaded from the Internet are NOT acceptable. There is no English test conducted by the university.

      If you cannot have an original score ready by the due date, please submit a printed page showing your score on the Internet by registered mail or in person by the July 30 (Thu.), 2020.

      In that case, submit the original score by mail or in person by the designated date.

3. If your score of TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS amount to more than the score below, it is considered to be equivalent to a perfect score of our English test.

4. Only an applicant who fulfills both Condition A and Condition B below is eligible to apply for the special measure targeted at an applicant who cannot submit an original score report of an external English test.

   2. B: unable to take approved English tests including TOEIC, TOEFL iBT、IELTS due to a reason not attributable to him/her (e.g. None of them take place or all of them have been cancelled in their country.)

   If you apply to the special measure, you have to contact us by email.
   If your reason for application turns out to be false, your examination results will be invalidated.
   Applicants who live in a country where TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition takes place (such as Japan) are ineligible for the special measure.

5. About Individual Interview
   〈2〉When applying on our web entry system, you can choose to be interviewed remotely if it is difficult for you to come to University of Tsukuba and to be interviewed on our campus face to face.
   A remote interview is restricted to connect to our university from outside Japan.
   As a general rule, while having an online interview, you must be in a public place proper for taking an entrance examination.
   To have an online interview, you must ensure the stability of communication environment including voice and video at the time of the oral examination day designated by the University.
   Please note that if the instability of your communication environment prevents the interview from going properly, you might be marked absent.
   As for the schedule of the oral examination, please refer to the “Timetable of the oral examination” that will be sent by email.

   1. 〈3〉 Answer the designated number of questions from basic and special subjects.
   2. 〈4〉 The examination of the special subject includes questions on inorganic/analytical
      chemistry, physical chemistry, and organic chemistry. Examinees have to
      answer all the questions.
   3. 〈5〉You must answer mathematics question. Besides, answer three questions from mechanics, electromagnetics, quantum mechanics, optics, and semiconductor engineering. (Choosing mechanics or electromagnetics is necessary.)
   4. 〈6〉Answer two questions from basic special subject, and one question from special subject. (three questions in total)
