3. Web Entry and Supporting Documents to be Submitted

With our Web Entry system, you can apply online. Read this section carefully before applying online. The first screening is conducted on both the information in Web Entry and the documents to be posted.

If any false or forged statements are found in the application documents, or if there is any obvious examination misconduct, the acceptance and admission may be revoked.

1. Applicant’s Information All applicants Follow the instructions on the Web Entry system.
You are requested to upload the JPEG data of your ID photo for the Reference Card. The ID photo must be taken within three months with no hats.
2. Course Information/ Preferences All applicants Follow the instructions on the Web Entry system.
TOEIC/ TOEFL/ IELTS Score All applicants except for those whose first language is English

The applicants who have graduated (or are expecting to graduate) from universities in English-speaking countries are exempt from the submission of an Official Score Certificate in some cases. Please contact the T-LSI office for details before application.

Please confirm the “English Proficiency Test Scores for the University of Tsukuba Graduate School Entrance Examination” and check the appropriate box indicated on the Web Entry system.
This document must be submitted separately in addition to the information entered online (please refer to the section “Documents to be sent from the applicant”

When English is your first language (see this file) or if you are currently enrolled in the master’s program in Life Science Innovation, the submission of the original of either of the examinations is not required.

1. Documents to be sent from the applicant

The original copies need to be posted to us by airmail/ express mail.

Documents Required for Remarks
(Expected) Graduation Certificate (See the note) All applicants Submit a certificate of (expected) completion issued by a university (generally the graduate school (university) from which you have earned your master’s degree), which meets the application requirements for the doctoral program of the University of Tsukuba Graduate School.

  • If the certificate (original) is issued online by an overseas university graduate, a ‘copy of the page and the URL’ of the official website of the issuing institution (university) must be attached to the certificate to confirm that the certificate is an ‘online certificate= original.’
  • For graduates of Chinese universities, see *note 2 below.
Degree Certificate Those who graduated from other educational institutions or a university outside Japan Submit a document/documents that will certify that you earned (are expected to earn) a master’s degree from a university or another educational institution.
The document(s) must;
– be issued by the institution
– include the name of the degree(s) conferred/ expected to be conferred by the institution and the date of conferral.
For applicants whose university/another educational institution is in Japan:
Post certified true copies to us by express mail. The document(s) must be written in Japanese.
For applicants whose university/another educational institution is outside Japan:
Upload a JPEG file to the Web Entry system and then post a certified true copy to us by express mail. The document(s) must be written in English.

Academic Transcript All applicants Submit an academic transcript (the official transcript of the program record) issued by universities or other educational institutions where you have earned/are expected to earn your master’s degree. If any credits were transferred from another school, submit an academic transcript from that school. (All documents must be in English or Japanese.)

Approval for Entrance Examination and Enrollment

Applicants who meet the following conditions
  1. Individuals who currently attend a university or graduate school (except those who will graduate prior to enrollment at the University) are required to submit an approval for Entrance Examination and Enrollment issued by the head of their university (or department). (Format of your choice, A4 size)
  2. Individuals who are currently employed in full-time positions are required to submit an approval for Entrance Examination and Enrollment issued by their supervisor or a declaration written by the applicants themselves. (Format of your choice, A4 size)
Certificate of Government-Sponsored International Student
(Format of your choice)
International applicants who meet the following conditions Government-sponsored international students enrolled in another university are required to submit a certificate of government-sponsored international student issued by the university.
Certificate of TOEIC/ TOEFL/ IELTS Score All applicants except for those whose first or native language is English Please confirm the “English Proficiency Test Scores for the University of Tsukuba Graduate School Entrance Examination” and submit a valid score report.
When applying using the TOEFL iBT test and TOEFL iBT Home Edition score reports, please check this link and follow the instructions.

It is not necessary to attach the document to a mounting sheet when submitting it.

*Note 1. If your current name differs from that on any of your certificates due to marriage or other reasons, enclose an extract of your family register (photocopy is acceptable) or a relevant certificate of individual items in your family register.

*Note 2. Substitution of the original English version of the Academic Credentials verification report issued by the ‘China Higher-education Information and Student Information (CHSI (JAPAN))’ is acceptable.

Notes: Results from the entrance examination, as well as personal information obtained by the University of Tsukuba from the application documents, will be used not only for affairs concerning admission and screening but also for research and study aimed at improving the admission procedure and the university education. We will carefully take care of the data not disclosed to a specific person. Also, we will use the data to screen students for scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization, which are offered to individuals who have completed the enrollment procedures.
