3. Online Application and Documents to be Submitted by Registered Mail or in Person

With our Online Application system, you can submit your application online. However, applicants MUST submit some of the original documents to us by registered mail. Read this section carefully before applying.

Information You Need for Online Application

    【Online Application Period】

  • August 19, 2024 (from 10 a.m. JST) – August 30, 2024 (by 3 p.m. JST)
Information Required for Remarks
1 Applicant’s Information All applicants Follow the instructions on the Online Application system.
You are requested to upload a photograph for your Reference Card in JPEG format. The photograph must be taken within the last three months and must not include hats or other head adornments.
2 Supervisor / English Proficiency Test Score Sheet / Oral Examination Language / Assistance All applicants Follow the instructions on the Online Application system.
(Note) Applicants need to submit ”Consent Form of Acceptance for Supervise” with the signature of your prospective supervisor.
3 Eligibility All applicants Follow the instructions on the Online Application system.
Research Plan All applicants Summarize your research plans in English in approximately 600 words.
(You may use the prescribed form downloadable from the Online Application system only if it is essential for you to use mathematical formulae, Greek letters, or special symbols, which cannot be entered into the system. Fill it out and submit it together with the other required documents by mail. The format of the form must not be changed. Do not write outside the box.
References should also be included in the word count.)
4 Educational Background All applicants Follow the instructions on the Online Application system.
Research Activities All applicants who have research history
Employment History All applicants who have employment history
5 Examination Fees All applicants

Follow the instructions given on the last page of the Online Application system and pay your fees.
The following payment methods are available.

[ Applicants to University of Tsukuba ]
Credit Card (for all applicants):
Pay your fees online. After the payment, enter the receipt number into the box on the Online Application system.
Convenience Store (for domestic applicants only):
Pay your fees at a convenience store in Japan. After the payment, enter the name of the convenience store, the date of payment, and the number given by the store into the box on the Online Application system.

[ Applicants to National Institute of Fitness and Sports in KANOYA ]
Payment Slip (for all applicants):
Please request the designated payment slip from National Institute of Fitness and Sports in KANOYA and make the payment with the slip.

Bank Remittance (for overseas applicants only):
Please remit the examination fee to the account specified in section 4 (Examination Fees).

1 (Expected) Graduation Certificate*1 All applicants Submit a graduation certificate (or an attested document certifying that you will graduate) issued by a university or another educational institution that meets the application requirements for the Master’s Programs of this Graduate School.

Note: Even if you have already earned a master’s or a doctoral degree, you need to submit a graduation certificate issued by the university from which you have earned a bachelor’s degree.

Note: For graduates of Chinese universities, see ‘*2 and *3 below’.

2 Degree Certificate*1
  1. Those who graduated from a university or another educational institution outside Japan
  2. Applicants who obtain a qualification for application from the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation
  1. If you graduated from a university or another educational institution outside Japan, submit a graduation certificate for your bachelor’s degree. All documents must be in English or in Japanese.

    Note: Even if you have already earned a master’s or doctoral degree, you need to submit a degree certificate issued by a university from which you have earned a bachelor’s degree.

  2. Applicants who obtain a qualification for application from the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation must submit a certificate of the degree awarded (a certificate of acceptance of application for the degree), an academic transcript, and other certificates related to earning the degree.

Upload the JPEG file of your degree certificate to the Online Application system.

Note: For graduates of Chinese universities, see ‘*2 and *3 below’.

3 Academic Transcript*1 All applicants
  1. Submit an academic transcript issued by a university (generally the undergraduate school from which you have earned your bachelor’s degree) which meets the application requirements for the Joint Master’s Program in International Development and Peace through Sport.
    Note: Even if you have a master’s or doctoral degree, you must submit an academic transcript issued by the university from which you earned your bachelor’s degree.
    Applicants who have credits transferred from another school must submit an academic transcript issued by that school as well.
  2. Applicants who have completed or expect to complete a graduate school must submit an academic transcript issued by the graduate school as well.

Note: For graduates of Chinese universities, see ‘*2 and *3 below’.

4 Research Plan Only applicants whose “Research Plan” includes mathematical formulae, Greek letters, or special symbols that cannot be entered in the Online Application system Summarize plans in English in approximately 600 words.
If applicable, check the box in the Online Application system to download the form from the last page. Fill out the research plan on one page and submit it to us by registered mail or in person.

5 Consent Form of Acceptance for Supervise All applicants Applicants must contact the prospective supervisor prior to the submission of the application documents. The prospective supervisor must sign this document as approval to be a supervisor of the applicant.

6 TOEIC Listening & Reading Test Official Score Certificate, TOEFL Test Taker Score Report / Examinee Score Report or IELTS (Academic Module) Official Test Report Form*4 All applicants Applicants must submit original of the one of the official documents from 1-3 below to the university you apply to by registered mail or courier service.
Certificates 1-3 must be taken within the past two years from the examination date of Joint Master’s Program in International Development and Peace through Sport are valid.

  1. TOEIC Listening & Reading Test Official Score Certificate (with a photo)
    If applicants took TOEIC Listening and Reading test after April, 2023 and held a digital official score certificate, they need to mail the printed document that is attached to the assigned sheet.
    (In this case, the original copy is not required.)
  2. TOEFL Examinee (Test Taker) Score Report (with a photo)
  3. IELTS (Academic Module) Official Test Report Form

Documents below are not acceptable

  • Uncertified photocopy of the certificate
  • TOEIC Institutional Program (IP) Score Report
  • TOEFL Institutional Test Program (ITP) Score Record
  • Official Score Certificate of TOEIC SW Test or TOEIC Bridge Test
  • IELTS Online results

Note1: Any questions arising out of or in connection with the TOEIC Listening & Reading Test Official Score Certificate, TOEFL Test Taker Score Report / Examinee Score Report, or IELTS Official Test Report Form will be referred to the issuing organizations
Note2: Applicants who have taken the TOEIC Listening & Reading Test after April 2023 and have been issued the Digital Official Score Certificate should follow the instructions when submitting the web application, enter the URL and submit the printed copy of the Digital Official Score Certificate on the department’s stipulated form on the application. In this case, there is no need to submit the originals of the TOEIC Listening & Reading Test Official Score Certificate.

7 Copy of “Application Completed” Page of Examination Fee Payment by Credit Card Applicants who made a credit card payment

After the payment, print out the “Application Completed” page, and submit it to us by registered mail or in person.
8 Receipt Portion (Certificate of Payment) of Examination Fee Statement
  • Applicants who made a convenience store payment
  • Applicants to National Institute of Fitness and Sports in KANOYA
    (*Refer to “4.Examination Fee.”)
After the payment, detach the Receipt Portion (Certificate of Payment) from the Examination Fee Statement given at the convenience store and submit it to us by registered mail or in person.
The Receipt Portion must be attached to the form created online and printed out after completing the Online Application procedure.
9 Letter of Approval for Entrance Exam (Form of Your Selection) If applicable

  1. Individuals who are currently attending a university or graduate school
    *Except for April entry applicants who are expected to graduate by March 2025 and October entry applicants who are expected to graduate by September 2025
  2. Individuals who are currently working for a government agency, school, or company (except for part-time workers)
  1. Need to submit a letter of approval issued by the head of their university or graduate school (or the head of their department) allowing them to take the entrance examination or, submit a letter of application the applicant (stating that he/she will withdraw from the university before enrolment). Any format is acceptable, but the letter must be printed on A4 paper.
  2. Need to submit a letter of approval issued by a superior allowing them to take the entrance examination or a written self-declaration stating that attending the entrance examination will not adversely affect their duties. Any format is acceptable, but the letter must be printed on A4 paper. (For those who plan to retire and enroll in this program, a written statement to that effect by the applicant (seal required) may be substituted for this letter.)
10 Certificate of Government-Sponsored (Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship) Foreign Student If applicable The certificate must be submitted by registered mail or in person.
If you are enrolled in another university at the time of application, submit the certificate of the government-sponsored (Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarship) foreign student issued by the university.
11 Declaration for Online Entrance Examination for Overseas Residents Foreign applicants who meet the criteria specified in the instructions Click here to download the form. If foreign residents would like to take online entrance exam, fill out forms of requirements (page 2 onwards) and submit them.

Note: approval from your prospective supervisor is needed.

*1 In case your current name is different from that on the documents you submit (e.g., because of marriage), submit with the proof (e.g., copy of your marriage license).
If you wish to register under your maiden name after enrollment, the procedure is different depending on the university which you apply to, please follow the instructions below.

[Applicants to University of Tsukuba] You can apply for the use of your maiden name during the enrolment procedure.

[Applicants to National Institute of Fitness and Sports in KANOYA] Please contact 「10. Contact Us」.

*2 Substitution of the original English version of the Academic Credentials verification report issued by the ‘China Higher education Information and Student Information (CHSI (Japan))’is acceptable.

*3 For those who have completed the 「自学考試(本科)」 and obtained a degree, the original transcript and degree certificate issued by the institution conducting the 「自学考試」 must be submitted. Applications from applicants who have not yet completed the 「自学考試」 are not accepted.

5 Form for Submission of English Proficiency Test Scores All applicants Affix the original valid score sheet to this form (Print-out of the official digital certificate of the TOEIC Test conducted after April 2023 is acceptable), and submit it to us.

Results from the entrance examination, as well as personal information obtained from the application documents, will be used not only for affairs concerning admission and screening, but also research and study aimed at improvement of the admission procedure and the university education. We will carefully take care of the data not to be disclosed as a specific person. Also, we will use the data to screen students for scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization, which are offered to individuals who have completed the enrollment procedures.
