3. Web Entry and Supporting Documents to be Submitted

With our Web Entry system, you can apply online. Read this section carefully before applying online. The first screening is conducted on both the information of Web Entry and the documents to be posted.

Information Required for Remarks
1. Applicant’s Information All applicants Follow the instruction on the Web Entry system.
You are requested to upload the JPEG data of your ID photo for the Reference Card. The ID photo must be taken within three months with no hats.
2. Course Information/ Preferences All applicants Follow the instructions on the Web Entry system.
TOEIC/ TOEFL/ IELTS Score All applicants except for those whose first or native language is English

The applicants, who have graduated (or are expecting to graduate) from universities in English speaking countries, are exempt from submission of Official Score Certificate in some cases. Please contact T-LSI office for details before application.

Read the following and check the appropriate box indicated on the Web Entry system:
Submit the original of TOEIC Official Score Certificate with photo identification, TOEFL-PBT or iBT Examineeʼs Score Record with photo identification, or IELTS (Academic Module) Official Test Report Form with photo identification of either of the examinations you took in or after following validity period.

*The English proficiency test will be used to assess whether you have the English proficiency (B2 or higher according to CEFR standards) required for conducting research activities in this degree program.

Upload the original of TOEIC Official Score Certificate with photo identification, TOEFL Examineeʼs Score Record with photo identification, or IELTS (Academic Module) Official Test Report Form with photo identification in JPEG format when proceeding with the Web Entry system.

The originals without photo identification, a photocopy of the originals, the original of TOEIC Institutional Program (IP) Score Report, or TOEFL Institutional Test Program (ITP) Score Record or score report of the IETLS General Training Module will NOT be accepted.
When English is your first language (see this file), the submission of the original of either of the examinations is not required.

1. Documents to be sent from the applicant

Documents Required for Remarks
(Expected) Graduation Certificate (See the note) All applicants Submit an (expected) graduation certificate issued by a university (generally the undergraduate school where you received a bachelor’s degree) that meets the application requirements for the University of Tsukuba.
(Note) Even if you have a master’s or doctoral degree, you are required to submit a certificate issued by the university where you received a bachelor’s degree.

  • If the certificate (original) is issued online by an overseas university graduate, a ‘copy of the page and the URL’ of the official website of the issuing institution (university) must be attached to the certificate to confirm that the certificate is an ‘online certificate= original’
  • For graduate of Chinese universities, see *note 2 and *3 below’.
Degree Certificate Those who graduated from other educational institution or a university outside Japan Submit a document/documents which will certify that you graduated (are expected to graduate) from a university or another educational institution and earned (are expected to earn) a bachelor’s degree.
The document(s) must;
– be issued by the institution
– include the name of the degree(s) conferred/ expected to be conferred by the institution and the date of conferral.
For applicants whose university/another educational institution is in Japan:
Post certified true copy(ies) to us by express mail. The document(s) must be written in Japanese.
For applicants whose university/another educational institution is outside Japan:
Upload a JPEG file to the Web Entry system and then post certified true copy(ies) to us by express mail. The document(s) must be written in English.

  • If the certificate (original) is issued online by an overseas university graduate, a ‘copy of the page and the URL’ of the official website of the issuing institution (university) must be attached to the certificate to confirm that the certificate is an ‘online certificate= original’

Academic Transcript All applicants Submit an academic transcript (the official transcript of program record) issued by universities or other educational institutions where you have earned/are expected to earn your bachelor’s degree. If any credits were transferred from another school, submit an academic transcript from that school. (All documents must be in English or Japanese.)
Post an original copy to us by express mail.

Letter of Approval for Taking the Examination

Applicants who meet the following conditions
  1. Individuals who currently attend a university or graduate school (except those who will graduate or complete in March 2024 (enrollment in April 2024) or in September 2024 (enrollment in October 2024)) are required to submit a letter of approval for taking the examination issued by the head of their university (or department). (Format of your choice, A4 size)
  2. Individuals who currently work for a government agency, school, or company (except part-time workers) are required to submit a letter of approval for taking the examination issued by their supervisor or a declaration written by the applicants themselves. (Format of your choice, A4 size)
Certificate of Government-Sponsored International Student

International applicants who meet the following conditions Government-sponsored international students enrolled in another university are required to submit a certificate of government-sponsored international student issued by the university.
Certificate of TOEIC/ TOEFL/ IELTS Score All applicants except for those whose first or native language is English The original of TOEIC/ TOEFL / IELTS Score of either of the examination you took in or after following validity period.

*Note 1. If your current name differs from that on any of your certificates due to marriage or other reasons, enclose an extract of your family register (photocopy is acceptable) or relevant certificate of individual items in your family register.

*Note 2. Substitution of the original English version of the Academic Credentials verification report issued by the ‘China Higher-education Information and Student Information (CHSI (JAPAN))’ is acceptable.

*Note 3. For those who have completed the 「自学考試(本科)」and obtained a degree, the original transcript and degree certificate issued by the institution conducting the 「自学考試」must be submitted. Applications from applicants who have not yet completed the 「自学考試」are not accepted.

Form for Submission of the Certificate of Payment of Application Fee Applicants who made a convenience store payment Attach the Receipt Portion (Certificate of Payment) of the Examination Fee Statement to the form and submit it to us by postal mail.

Notes: Results from the entrance examination, as well as personal information obtained by the University of Tsukuba from the application documents, will be used not only for affairs concerning admission and screening, but also research and study aimed at improvement of the admission procedure and the university education. We will carefully take care of the data not to be disclosed as a specific person. Also, we will use the data to screen students for scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization, which are offered to individuals who have completed the enrollment procedures.
