Paper certificates and other documents required for application (See below table) should be mailed (using registered mail) or brought in person. All required documents must be put in an envelope which fits unfolded A4 size paper with an Address Sheet attached. You can download your Address Sheet in PDF from the Web Entry System.
We will begin reviewing the documents as soon as they arrive.
We will contact you at the email address registered in web application only if there are any deficiencies. Please respond promptly so that any issues can be resolved without delay.
Please note that we do not send a receipt confirmation if there are no deficiencies.
The documents must arrive to our office by the deadline (See “1. Schedule”). If your documents fail to arrive by the deadline or any of the required documents is incomplete, invalid or missing, you will not be allowed to take the exam. Documents brought in after 5:00 p.m. JST on the last day of the submission period will not be accepted. The deadlines are strictly observed.
In case of delays caused by the carrier, submit an official notice from the carrier indicating the situation.

Note:
- Your [Expected] Graduation Certificate, [Expected] Degree Certificate and Academic Transcript must be original documents with the official university seal unless otherwise specified.
- In case of submitting photocopies of certificates because they cannot be reissued, etc., only those certificates that are certified by the issuer of the certificate that the photocopies do not differ from the original will be accepted. (To verify authenticity, the official seal of the issuer must be stamped directly on the photocopy (paper media) to be submitted.)

- If your university does not issue paper certificates, digital certificates will be accepted on the condition that the following 1) and 2).
In case of using an independent authentication system that does not fall under any of the categories below, please consult us individually, in principle, by the application start date.
1) URL of an online verification service that can verify the authenticity of the digital certificates
*However, those that cannot be accessed from outside (e.g., those that require the use of the VPN of your university or cannot be accessed without an account at your university) are not acceptable.
2) URL of the official web page indicating that your university is using such online verification service - All documents must be written in Japanese or English. Otherwise, attach a Japanese or English translation. The translation must be verified officially. You may translate it by yourself with issuer’s verification on it.
In principle, all documents submitted will not be returned to you. For certificates that cannot be reissued, please submit a copy certified by the issuer or an official institution.
If you are unable to obtain a verified photocopy that meets our requirement, please submit the original document with a return request.
Regardless of the above, the External English Test Score Sheet will NOT be returned. Also, we will not provide you with a photocopy after submission. Please make your own copy and keep them before submission if necessary.
※For those who have graduated from a university in China, please follow the instructions below.
– Applicants submitting a graduation (or expected graduation) certificate and a degree (or expected degree) certificate issued by a Chinese university must also submit the English version of the Academic Verification Report issued by CHSI (China Higher-education Information and Student Information). Submission of the CHSI certificate alone is also acceptable.
– For those who completed the Self-taught Higher Education Examination (Benke) and obtained a degree, the official transcripts and degree certificate must be submitted in the original, issued by the institution administering the Self-taught Examination. Please note that applications based on expected completion of the Self-taught Examination are not accepted.

Score sheets must meet all of the following requirements to be accepted:
- The English test must be taken in July 2024 or later.
- The applicant’s photo must be printed on the score sheet.
Please refer to the announcement “(Important) English Proficiency Test Scores for the University of Tsukuba Graduate School Entrance Examination” on the website’s top page the details on how to submit each English test scores. As the information may be updated from time to time, be sure to check the latest information before submitting your documents.
We will not accept the following document:
- A photocopy of TOEIC Listening and Reading Test Official Score Certificate without digital verification
- TOEIC Institutional Program Score Report
- TOEFL ITP® Score Report
- IELTS General Training Test Report Form
- IELTS Academic (Online) Test Report Form
- In addition to the above examples, other than the designated External English Test Score Sheets, we will not accept any other score sheets.
*1: In case of submitting the TOEIC Listening and Reading Test Official Score Certificate taken outside Japan, the score sheet must be affixed to the designated form, which can be downloaded from the system after completing web entry.
“How to submit the TOEIC exam taken outside Japan”
*2: If a score sheet that meets the requirements is not submitted at the time of application, regardless of the reason, you will be considered to have missed the examination subject of “English” (or “Application Document Screening” in the examinations of the Doctoral Program in Empowerment Informatics) and will be excluded from the further selection.
*3: If you are unsure whether the certificate you have are acceptable, please be sure to contact us before the application period begins. If you inquire right before the application deadline, you may not have enough time to prepare the required documents and may become unable to submit your application.
Request Letter for Exemption from TOEIC, TOEFL, or IELTS Academic Score Requirements
Applicants for the Master’s Program in Intelligent and Mechanical Interaction Systems and the Doctoral Program in Empowerment Informatics can apply for an exemption from submitting the designated score sheets if they meet certain conditions.
If you wish to apply for this exemption, you must submit a letter indicating your linguistic background. Any format is acceptable. If you meet the exemption condition 3), please also submit the original certificate that serves as supporting evidence.
Exemption conditions:
Applicants must fall under any of the following:
1) Those whose first or native language is English
2) Those from a country where English is an official language
3) Those who completed their undergraduate course fully conducted in English
Applicants for other Master’s Programs are not eligible for this exemption.
