2. Eligibility for Application

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

No Eligibility Screening Required
  • Individuals who have graduated or who will graduate from a Japanese four-year university by March 2027
  • Individuals who have earned or will earn a bachelor’s degree in Japan by March 2027
  • Individuals who have graduated from a university outside Japan that implements 16 or more years of school curriculum up to university graduation, and earned a bachelor’s degree
  • Individuals who are expecting to graduate from the university described above, and earn a bachelor’s degree by March 2027
  • Individuals who have obtained or are obtaining relevant qualifications as specified by the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology
Eligibility Screening Required
  • Individuals who are 22 years of age or older as of March 2027, and whose qualification is recognized as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree as a result of the Eligibility Screening conducted by us.

3. Web Entry and Supporting Documents to be Submitted

With our Web Entry system, you can apply online. Read this section carefully before applying online. The first screening is conducted on both the information in Web Entry and the documents to be posted.

If any false or forged statements are found in the application documents, or if there is any obvious examination misconduct, the acceptance and admission may be revoked.

You are requested to upload the JPEG data of your ID photo for the Reference Card. The ID photo must be taken within three months with no hats.

Degree Certificate Those who graduated from other educational institutions or a university outside Japan Submit a document/documents that will certify that you graduated (are expected to graduate) from a university or another educational institution and earned (are expected to earn) a bachelor’s degree.
The document(s) must;
– be issued by the institution
– include the name of the degree(s) conferred/ expected to be conferred by the institution and the date of conferral.
For applicants whose university/another educational institution is in Japan:
Post certified true copies to us by express mail. The document(s) must be written in Japanese.
For applicants whose university/another educational institution is outside Japan:

Approval for Entrance Examination and Enrollment

Certificate of Government-Sponsored International Student
(Format of your choice)		 International applicants who meet the following conditions Government-sponsored international students enrolled in another university are required to submit a certificate of government-sponsored international student issued by the university.

Notes: Results from the entrance examination, as well as personal information obtained by the University of Tsukuba from the application documents, will be used not only for affairs concerning admission and screening but also for research and study aimed at improving the admission procedure and the university education. We will carefully take care of the data not disclosed to a specific person. Also, we will use the data to screen students for scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization, which are offered to individuals who have completed the enrollment procedures.

4. Examination Fee

You must pay the examination fee before you proceed with the web entry.
30,000 Japanese Yen (non-refundable)

Please note that the examination fees are exempted for those who are

  1. The Government-Sponsored (MEXT scholarship) students.
Credit Card Payment:

Visa, MasterCard, JCB, and AMERICAN EXPRESS are accepted.
You can make a payment by using your credit card at the last stage of the Web Entry system or the following website:
https://e-shiharai.net/english/ (available in English only)
After the payment, you will be provided with the receipt number, so enter the number into the box on the Web Entry system.
Print out the completed application page after the payment and submit it together with other required documents to us by mail.
Administration fees need to be covered by the applicant.

Convenience Store Payment:

Payment can be made at LAWSON, Seven-Eleven, Family Mart, or MINISTOP.
To pay your fees at a convenience store, follow the instructions given at the last stage of the Web Entry system or the following website:
https://e-shiharai.net/ (available in Japanese only)
At the time you apply for a Convenience Store Payment online, you will be given an 11-digit or a 13-digit application number. The number is required when you make the payment at the convenience store.

After the payment, enter the name of the convenience store where you made the payment, the date of payment, and the application number into the boxes on the Web Entry system.

  1. Seven-Eleven: 13 digits
  2. LAWSON, Family Mart, MINISTOP: 11 digits

Detach the Receipt Portion (Certificate of Payment) from your Examination Fee Statement given to you at the convenience store and affix it to the “Form for Submission of the Certificate of Payment of Application Fee”. You can create the form in PDF format and print it out from the Web Entry system. Submit it together with other required documents to us by mail.
*Administration fees need to be covered by the applicant.
*Application fees once paid are non-refundable.

5. Application Procedure

  1. Visit our Web Entry system to apply. The Web Entry system will be available during the following period.
      【Application Period】

    • August Selection Process： July 9, 2026, 12:00 pm – July 22, 2026, 3:00 pm
    • January to February Selection Process： November 30, 2026, 12:00 pm – December 10, 2026, 3:00 pm
  2. Some of the documents have to be mailed to the Office of Master’s/Doctoral Program in Life Science Innovation by express mail. Your documents need to be received by the deadline. When you submit your application online, the system will ask you to create the Address Sheet. Print out the sheet created and attach it to the envelope when sending the required documents to us.
  3. In principle, submitted certificates and other required documents will not be returned. If you wish to have them returned due to unavoidable circumstances, you must contact the T-LSI Office by the application deadline.
      【Due dates】

    • August Selection Process： arrives no later than July 23, 2026
    • January to February Selection Process： arrives no later than December 11, 2026
  4. If the documents do not arrive within the specified period or if any documents are missing, the application will not be accepted, and you will not be able to take the entrance examination.

7. Announcement of Acceptance and Enrollment Procedure

Announcement of Acceptance

  • August Selection Process： September 10, 2026

The examinee numbers of the successful applicants will be posted on the website.
Letter of Acceptance will be issued online. An email will be sent to the email address registered for the application from 10:00 a.m. on the day of acceptance announcement sequentially. Please follow the instructions in that email to download Letter of Acceptance.
*It may take up to an hour from the announcement to receive the email.

Enrollment Procedure

  1. The information on Admission Procedure will be provided to successful applicants to the email address registered for the application.
    Please follow the instructions in that email to conduct the admission procedure. Admission will be permitted upon completion of the prescribed admission procedure.

      * International students refer to individuals residing in Japan under the ‘Student’ residence status as specified in Table (4) of Appended Table I of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act (Cabinet Order No. 319 of 1951).
      *1：If fees are revised before admission or while enrolled in thee university, the revised amount of fees will apply.
      *2：Tuition exemption applications will be processed after enrollment.

  3. All applicants who have a full-time job must submit a document or a letter (e.g. an order to attend a training course, a letter of leave of absence or an approval letter) issued by the employer to prove that you are approved to enroll in the university.
  4. Applicants with foreign nationality must acquire a status of residence which is suitable for admission, in accordance with the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act (Cabinet Order No. 319 of 1951), before beginning enrollment procedures. Those who wish to enroll in the university as an international student must obtain a “Student” visa and enter Japan with a residence status of “Student.”
